Fix-It Fridays: Catch-Up Edition

I've been slacking on doing my fix-it Fridays from I Heart Faces, so here's a bunch I did recently to brush up on my skills:

Fix-it Friday

Original:

For the first edit, I cropped in closer. Then I adjusted the white balance in Adobe Camera Raw, then warmed up the temperature because she was looking kind of blue. I adjusted the levels to brighten and make the colours pop, and then I ran the Boost action at a low opacity to add a little more oomph, turning off the crispiness and zing layers. I ran an unsharp mask and then ran noiseware.

The Result:

I straightened this picture out, and then cropped. I lightened the whites of his eyes a little and used MCP's touch of light action to lessen some of the shadows on the right side of his face. Then I converted to black and white using a gradient map, did a duplicate layer and selected hard light to make it pop some more, and then ran noiseware.

Fix it Friday

It's fix-it Friday over at I Heart Faces. Here's what I came up with.

After:

I opened the photo in ACR and did basic tweaking to correct the exposure. I warmed it up, because that's how I roll. The pole and the power box were kind of distracting, so I *tried*to clone them out. It was pretty much a hack job, but it was practice, and the good news is I can only get better. On the first one I ran Coffeeshop's Butterscotch Vintage action at around 50%. On the second one, I did a mixture of Coffeeshop's Creamy Chocolate Black and White, and Coffeeshop's Sun Kissed.

As always, I adjusted the levels first. Then I warmed things up,  ran coffeeshop's sunkissed with my usual adjustments, and increased the contrast.

This may not be everybody's cup of tea, but one of my favourite things is to have a nap with the sun streaming through the window, so I thought I'd try to give this photo that effect.

To edit this photo in Photoshop Elements 6:
I used Coffeeshop's Squeaky Clean action to clean it up.
Then I adjusted the colour for skin tone using the dropper tool. The colour looked a little cool after that, so I warmed it up with the temperature slider.
Then I used:
Coffeeshop's Little Perk
Pioneer Woman's Bring Out The Eyes
Coffeeshop's Butterscotch Vintage at 21% opacity.
The eyes were still a little shadowed, so I lightened the shadows.
Then I ran at unsharp mask at 75% for the amount, Radius of 2 and Threshold of 3.
I used Noiseware to get rid of the grain.
And Voila :)

Fix-it Friday

The side of his face is obviously REALLY blown out, and the rest of the picture is underexposed.

My Edit:

Here's what I did:
-Adjusted the lighting levels
-Adjusted the colour curves
-Ran  Coffeeshop Sunkissed--with the brightness turned down on the flare and the lightness adjusted. I also moved the flare so that it would be on the appropriate side of his face
-I ran Coffeeshop Butterscotch Vintage, but I turned it way down to 7% opacity
-Coffeeshop Soft and Dreamy. I changed the colour layer from purple to orange and then turned it down. Then I turned down the ivory fill layer to 60% opacity.
-Finally, I ran noiseware. Whew!

Hmm. . .I've decided that my edit makes him look like a ghost. I'll have to come back and fix it later, but right now I have to hit the books!
Or not. I couldn't resist. I just warmed it up using the temperature slider:

Fix it Friday

This is my first edit using photoshop elements, which I got last night. I'm still figuring it out, which is why there are two random dots on the background that I can't figure out how to get rid of. I did some curves adjustments, worked on the skin tone using the skin-tone dropper, and then ran my first action, Coffeeshop Little Perk. Then I ran noiseware.

Edit:
I figured out how to get rid of the dots. Yay! I think there are other ways to do it, but what I did was use the eraser tool to erase them, then used the eyedropper tool to select the background colour. Then I switched to the paint bucket tool and filled the spots that I'd erased with the background colour that I selected. Here it is:

Day 123: BW conversions

As I mentioned in other posts, I've been working on my black and white converstions. I think I've come up with a "recipe" that I like, at least for certain photos.

I don't think this photo really needed much. I just cropped, did some curve adjustments and rounded the corners. Voila. Oh, and I also added vignette.

Fix-it Friday

It's fix-it Friday over at i heart faces. I have never participated in this editing challenge before, but I thought I'd give it a try. As you know, I've been working on my black and white conversions, so I thought I'd b/w this one. Feel free to let me know if you think it's muddy.
