Day 111: Buckets of Fun
- 12:25 PM

I got a new prop today. Moses is a bit grouchy, but he did let me try it out for a couple minutes before he crawled away. I used my 50 mm lens because its the only one that's good in low-light, but I couldn't back up enough so I didn't get the entire barrel in the photo. I need a good zoom lens. I can't wait til I can get the Tamron 28-75mm
, but I'll probably be saving for awhile :/
I'm getting a green color cast from the bed. . .I really need to work on white balance.

Day 107: Backlighting

I quickly tried out backlighting on our evening walk. I didn't have as much time to work on my settings as I wanted because someone (Read: Calin) just wanted to walk to the store and not pose for a million pictures. Unheard of. Anyway, this is what I got. I took some on manual, those weren't good, then I switched to no flash mode before someone (Read: Calin) took my head off. What settings do you use for successful backlighting? I can't wait to get out and try again. I'm also pretty sure these are all OOF. Ugh.
Day 98: Black and White Storyboard

I've been working on black and white conversions a LOT this week. It's become a not-so-mild obsession. I have been trying to figure out how to make them have "true black" and "true white" and not be "muddy"--unfortunately I only have a vague idea of what any of that means, lol. Anyway.
I got this idea from the book How To Photograph Your Baby. It has tons of simple tips on getting better baby photos and different projects and ways to display them. It's a pretty basic book, but it's good for someone who is JUST starting out.
Taking these photos was also a challenge because Moses was sleeping in my lap while I took most of them. Then when he woke up I got the one of his eyes. This would have definitely not have been possible without my new wide-angle lens adapter. Usually trying to take photos of Moses while he sleeps on my lap is a total lost cause, but I think these worked out pretty well.
Please let me know what you think about the black and white conversions, and any suggestions you might have to improve. My husband is a little tired of having to tell me "Yes, it's still muddy" lol, and I think he has started telling me that everything's great in order to not have to make him look at a new edit every 2 minutes.

In the mirrored elevator at the mall. Moses loves mirrors and is starting to recognize himself. He gets very excited if he sees his reflection or a picture of himself. :)
Lightscoop and Wide Angle Converter

I got my lightscoop
today! It bounces the flash off the ceiling so that the pictures don't end up getting ruined by flash reflecting off the subject's face.

Big difference, huh? These are straight out of the camera and obviously not great, but I was just trying it out.
I also got my new (used) wide-angle lens converter
today. It pretty much makes it so I can get more in the
frame, simulating a wide-angle lens without actually being one.

These were taken from the same distance away. Isn't that cool? People also talk about wide angle distortion, and I never really knew what they meant until now. Up close, a wide angle lens is less than flattering to the face. It kind of makes people look exaggerated and a little cartoony. See below:
I love it!
Day 90: Learning Manual

I shot these in Manual today. I have been working on Manual settings a lot, and I think I'm getting better at it. Yesterday's photo was also shot in manual. I took these pictures while Moses was sitting on Calin's lap at the computer this morning.
